Current Graduate Students

Christine Cornish – PhD Student

Christine completed a Masters degree from Missouri State University with Dr. Latoya Kissoon-Charles. Her PhD research is examining the impacts of pesticides on aquatic ecosystems.

Whitney Sauskojus -MS student

Whitney began working as an undergraduate researcher in the lab and took over a large component of the EPA funded project examining how long since restoration do prairie ecosystems take for ecosystem services to recover. She decided to continue with her MS looking at macroinvertebrate communities in restored and native prarie wetlands

Mason Ward -MS student

Mason did his undergrad at the University of Missouri, and will join the new lab at Penn State. He will working on a project examining the impacts of spongy moth (L. dispar dispar) on vernal pool ecosystems, particularly aquatic invertebrate communities!

Kui Hu – PhD (2023)

Kui obtained her Masters from Yunnan Normal University working with Dr. Guangjie Chen.  Her PhD research focused on understanding past climate change effects on the prairie pothole ecosystem.

Kyle McLean – PhD (2020)

Kyle’s dissertation was focused on examining long-term records of aquatic macroinvertebrate communities and their responses to hydroclimatic variability in prairie pothole wetlands. Kyle works as an ecologist for the USGS at the Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center

Nate Williams – MS (2018)

Nate’s MS thesis focused on neonicotinoid pesticides and their impacts on aquatic invertebrate communities in the prairie pothole wetland ecosystem. He now works as a Wildlife Refuge Specialist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Illinois.

Lab Pets

Maya is a German Shepherd Mix who loves water! (and snow!) She loves getting out in the field or going for hikes.

Quill is also a German Shepherd Mix. He’s still a little unsure of going in the water, but he enjoys boat rides, and is always willing to “help”
